HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A 48-year-old man was killed when his vehicle slammed into a power pole overnight in northeast Harris County, according to authorities.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office said deputies with the Precinct 3 constable's office were dispatched to the 14000 block of W. Lake Houston Parkway to a single-vehicle crash.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, HCSO said.

According to an investigation, the man was driving southbound at a high speed when he failed to drive in a single lane, left the roadway, and hit a utility pole. Authorities said no other vehicle was involved.

CenterPoint was called out to the scene to assess the utility pole, but authorities said they didn't see any obvious damage.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor, but authorities say that high speed could be one of the main factors. It was added that at the time of the crash, it was very dark and there were limited street lights.
